Gainbridge Fieldhouse and Lucas Oil Stadium may be the stars of the music scene in Indianapolis, but the city is full of hidden gems!
Indianapolis offers a lively, diverse music scene with several exciting events coming soon. Highly renowned artists such as Cardi B, Journey, Morgan Wallen and Megan Moroney all have upcoming concerts in Indy over the next three months. While these big names are performing at larger venues, many smaller events are taking place that appeal to a wide range of music tastes.
On Feb. 24, HI-FI Indy is hosting Stephen Kellogg and The Homecoming with supporting artist Gutter Sinatra. This performance will incorporate roughly 25 years of Kellogg’s music, according to Kellogg. Both Kellogg and The Homecoming, as well as Sinatra, embrace an alternative sound featuring folk-rock and indie-rock elements. Both artists are songwriters as well as performers of their work. According to HI-FI Indy, the venue only holds up to 400 people, making this show an intimate event focusing on the music.
“Just come to feel something,” Sinatra (Don Miggs) said. “You’re gonna see how these songs work live, and you get to live in them. There’s no better experience than live [music].”
For another intimate concert experience, the Hoosier Dome offers live music with a capacity of only 150, according to IndieOnTheMove. On Feb. 28, the venue is hosting “The Small Things,” a Blink-182 tribute band. Although this band has no presence on music streaming services, they focus on capturing the pop-punk essence of Blink-182 through their covers. This event is open to all ages and is drug-and-alcohol-free, according to the Hoosier Dome.
A mid-size venue, the Old National Center, is hosting a more mainstream pop artist, Lauren Spencer Smith, set to perform on March 2. This singer/songwriter appeared on “American Idol,” where she made it to the top 20 before being eliminated, according to girlslife. Smith is known for her hit ballad, “Fingers Crossed,” which reached the top five on the UK singles chart, according to BBC. She will be joined by two other pop artists, Sadie Jean and Maisy Kay.
For the country fans out there, singer/songwriter Ernest is performing at the Old National Center on March 5. Ernest is largely known for his collaboration with Wallen on the hit single, “Flower Shops.” He has also been recognized by the Country Music Association for songs such as “Big, Big Plans,” recorded by Chris Lane, and “I Love My Country,” recorded by Florida Georgia Line.
The Everwise Amphitheater at White River State Park is another mid-size venue, offering a more energetic feel, while still creating an intimate experience. English musician and Grammy award winner, Yungblud, will be taking the stage at Everwise on May 7. This singer/songwriter blends elements of pop, punk and rock in his music to create a unique sound. Alternative metal and rock band “Return to Dust” is scheduled to support Yungblud at the show.
