One thing about me: I am a sucker for a diner aesthetic.
Let me be clear, this is not my first time having Oasis Diner, and I am already a big fan of the food. But when Devour Indy returned and Oasis made a three-course meal for $19.99, I figured I should give it a try, especially since the food offered is not what I usually order.
As a drink, not a part of the three-course meal, I opted for a chocolate Coke, and my boyfriend selected the vanilla Coke. Oasis makes its own drinks in-house, so there is a surprisingly good selection. As I said, I love a diner aesthetic, so I try to get a chocolate Coke when I can, and it was very tasty. However, putting both of our drinks together was AMAZING. It will definitely be a constant from now on.
For my starter, I chose the fried pickles, which came with ranch. Fried pickles are my kryptonite, and I was very excited to see if I would have a new favorite fried pickle spot to enjoy. I was not disappointed, and I would actually go so far as to say these were some of the best fried pickles I have ever had. I wish the pickles got fried a little longer to solidify the breading, but I am sure a request of “extra crispy” would suffice that need. The breading was divine, and the pickles were absolutely delicious as well.
For my entrée, I chose the Quaker burger, as it is in Plainfield, Indiana. Burgers already are not my favorite entrée to pick from, so this burger was all-right in my book. I believe the diner uses a potato bun for its burgers, so it was weirdly sweet to me and not really a preference. However, the burger and the toppings itself were perfectly fine. I would recommend getting it with barbeque sauce if you are a fan. After taking off one of the buns, it was a lot better to eat. With the sandwich, you also get a side, so I picked cottage cheese as I usually do — tasty as always.
Finally, for my dessert, I picked beignets. After going to New Orleans, I think just about any beignet I try will fall flat in comparison, but the treat itself was not bad. Coated in powdered sugar and a relatively dense treat, it filled me up quickly. However, if I were to try a dessert from Oasis Diner again, I would opt for one of the many pies offered such as the Dutch apple or cinnamon peach flavors. There is also a wide variety of ice cream flavors there, but those are not on the Devour Indy menu.
Overall, not only were the dishes I had perfectly fine, I would definitely say that the quality for the price was worth it. The waitress told me that the other sandwich, the tenderloin, is huge and fills up the whole basket. So if that Hoosier classic fits your fancy, I would give that a go. For $20, I would definitely eat here again.
