The “Love Island” summer might be over, but that does not mean we need to stop talking about it.
After season seven of “Love Island USA” had me feeling disappointed, the lead up to season eight was almost frightening. Luckily, I was pleasantly surprised by the new additions to the growing show. From new challenges and dates, a more dramatic Casa Amor and “Brinity,” I have to admit I loved this season.
The best part had to be the casting. Though the discourse online might not agree, a large part of this cast made the season worth watching. The “Core Four,” Trinity, Melanie, Aniya and Kayda, stole the show every episode. Female friendship has always played a huge role in every season of “Love Island USA,” and season eight was no different. The friendships around the island were almost all healthy, adding a new dynamic to the notoriously dramatic show.
The drama almost felt like too much sometimes, though. Sincere’s final exposure at Movie Night gave me extreme second-hand embarrassment, not to mention the drama KC and Aniya had after the Casa Recoupling. There were a lot of moments where being a viewer felt invasive. Watching Aniya cry had me wondering if I should book a flight to Fiji or just turn off the TV and give her the space she needs.
“Love Island USA” would not be what it is without Emmy-nominated Ariana Maddix. Not only does she bring the drama that viewers want, but she creates a place for Islanders to feel comfortable. She lifts the girls up and allows them to be confident during their “Love Island” journey, even when she has to dump them from the island.
To top it all off with what actually matters, this season was unforgettable in the love department. The couples we ended with actually felt real, which is a big step up from season seven. Carl and Aniya, Trinity and Bryce and even the “bromance” between Bryce and Zach made all the tears, yelling and drama worthwhile.
