The 2026 WNBA season kicked off May 8, with each team already playing over 35 games leaving the Indiana Fever with a fifth place standing.
A fifth straight win against the Toronto Tempo during their away game on Aug. 18th marked the Fever’s longest win streak of the season and the third longest of the 2026 WNBA season, reported by the WNBA.
The streak-breaking loss against the Los Angeles Wings followed by another loss to the Chicago Sky brought the Fever down from their third place overall standing to fifth, per Yahoo Sports.
Key players such as guards Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell, along with center Aliyah Boston have been central to the Fever’s season. Clark recently accomplished a career record of eight 3-pointers in one game on Aug. 23, scoring 37 total points in the 113-point game, according to Hawk Central.
Mitchell is maintaining a career best 24.7 point/game average and is working to increase that, with two of her most recent game appearances exceeding 30-points, according to ESPN.
Boston was benched in the Aug. 23 game against the Sky for a persistent lower leg injury that has caused issues for the team throughout the 2026 season. Boston’s injury and her being benched could lead fans to expect some gaps to open up in the team’s defense, with Boston being one of the tallest and strongest players in the center position. However, fans have seen increased playing time for center Mercedes Russel and forward Monique Billings during Boston’s time off the court, and the Fever has won three of the four games that Boston has missed due to her injury, according to the WNBA. Boston has been benched for a total of four games due to the leg injury but has still played many games despite it, according to USA Today.
According to Indy Star, the Fever has clinched a playoff position for their third straight season, much attributed to Clark, Boston and Mitchell. Playoffs are scheduled to begin on Sept. 28, though the official playoffs bracket and schedule has yet to be released.
The prediction market for the 2026 WNBA playoff season maintains the Minnesota Lynx as a favorite, with the Fever not even making the top three fan choices for playoff champions, per ESPN. The Fever are expected to take on 14th place Connecticut Sun on Aug. 28 and the Tempo on Sept. 18.
