Whether you’re reality TV-obsessed or you hate it, the likelihood of you seeing “Love Island USA” season six is very high after TikTok and other platforms experienced the “Love Island fever.” I was never one for reality TV until last summer when I experienced my first episode of “Love Island USA.” After I watched the fifth season of the show, I watched the other four and was extremely excited for the newest season to air — and was not disappointed.
Anyone who has watched the show knows that the whole premise of Love Island is to have young, single and conventionally attractive people run around in swimsuits. Many viewers on the internet cringe the second the islanders appear. However, I really enjoy the cringe aspect of this show; it adds a sense of comedy that you don’t get in most reality TV.
The high-quality villa itself says a lot about the budget, but the budget does not mean there aren’t weaknesses within the show. Without everything being aired, it’s hard to watch without feeling like you’re being lied to. While that might be the whole point, I feel like the producers often choose one person to make out to be terrible in the show, and we might never know what is “real.” Being confined to the small space in the villa, the islanders get to know each other well and progress their relationships quickly. The initial meeting of the islanders ran smoothly, but as the time passed, this year’s group of singles showed the messiest side of Love Island USA that fans have ever seen, and I loved it.
From Aaron and Kordell’s actions in Casa alone, I could feel the drama radiating off my screen, and there is so much to say about Leah and Rob. With everyone going crazy on social media over the various couples, I found myself getting attached to every cast member; it really was “Love Island.” Despite this, there are only three couples who have stayed together after the finale, Kordell and Serena; Miguel and Leah; and JaNa and Kenny; so that’s just the name of the game — or show.
Overall, this has been a favorite season of Love Island USA among viewers. It showcased everything I’ve ever wanted from reality TV. It was such a high to wait for each episode to air and vote as quickly as possible for my favorite couple. I’m not one to obsess over TV, but it’s safe to say that I did during this show. I know the producers live for giving viewers what they want, so it’s obvious next summer there will be even more drama, and I can’t wait.
