The Weeknd’s “Hurry Up Tomorrow” is a perfect ending to his current trilogy run, featuring the albums “After Hours” and “Dawn FM.” It is likely Abel Tesfaye’s last album as the Weeknd, according to Vulture.
As every song in the album transitions into the next, it is clear the intention was to listen to the full album in one sitting. The album is filled with incredible high and low points emotionally, reflecting on Tesfaye’s career as The Weeknd and ending the current trilogy run.
The album is great without the features; however, the features make the album an even better experience. “Enjoy The Show (feat. Future)” is one of the most amazing tracks on the album, potentially one of The Weeknd’s best. Future’s line “I can’t feel my face anymore” is one of the many lyrical throwbacks that can be found throughout the album. It is very clever and adds to the experience.
Another feature that stands out on the album is “Timeless (feat Playboi Carti).” It is one of the best songs on the album. It makes me wonder how much the Weeknd paid Playboi Carti for the feature; I assume it was not cheap. It is mindblowing how the two singers complement each other’s artistry.
Other features include Justice, Anitta, Travis Scott, Florence + The Machine, Giorgio Moroder and Lana Del Rey. The lineup might be one of the best casts for features on any album in the past 10 years. The Weeknd was not playing around when it came to making this album a work of art.
It is a very remarkable choice of how the title track, “Hurry Up Tomorrow” is at the end of the album. A very beautiful song, the ending is similar to Tesfaye’s first as the Weeknd in his discography, “High For This.”
The album, while amazing, does feel a little long at times. Clocking in at an hour and 24 minutes, it is a double album in length. On the first listen, it was a little difficult to understand what was going on until halfway through. My second listen made the album an amazing experience. It is an easy listening album but it is also easy to tune out of at times. Personally, I like focusing on what I am listening to but I appreciate the art for what it is.
“Hurry Up Tomorrow” is going to be known as one of the most notable albums of this decade. It definitely will be remembered by fans of The Weeknd forever. It is a timeless, easy-listening experience. A powerful album of reflection to mark the likely end of an era, whether it is just the trilogy or Tesfaye’s persona as The Weeknd as he has alluded to in some interviews and social media posts.
