Indiana House District 93 – Eva Rosberg

Bio

Eva Rosberg is a fourth generation Hoosier and lifelong resident of Indianapolis’ southside. She spent 25 years as a successful hairstylist and small business owner before transitioning to public service in 2020, serving as the Executive Assistant to the Marion County Assessor. Rosberg’s top priorities include improving public schools, fighting for affordability and bringing a community-first perspective to the office.

Q&A

Why are you running for Indiana House District 93?

I’m running for the 93rd district because I believe it deserves better representation than it’s had in the last 10 to 15 years. I don’t think the representation is in line with the community. I also am running to break the super majority in the Indiana State House. My husband and I moved to Perry Township, in Indianapolis, to feel like we had better representation than where we were living before in Johnson County and thereabouts. Unfortunately, over the years it seems that our representation has been squeezed out more and more, so I felt like this was a good time for me to stand up and run for my community.

What committees do you feel you’d be best equipped to serve on in the upcoming legislative session?

I haven’t done a ton of studies on the committees I would be interested in. However, the Education Committee would be one that I would like to serve on. I would also like to work on furthering LGBTQ+ rights, so any committee that does work in that regard would also interest me. In general, I want to do work that’s going to help our community rather than take away from it. Any committees that can help me accomplish that goal are ones I’d be willing to work on.

What would be your top priority if elected?

My top priority is to take a look at our school funding. I believe that they made a couple mistakes with the school choice and the voucher program and it’s hurting our public school systems. I do think parents should have a choice, but I believe they went way too far. I would definitely be looking at repealing some of the voucher programs and finding better ways to fund those public schools for the services that a lot of Hoosiers use in our public school system. My opponent used the public school systems because she adopted a son from Ukraine, and private schools did not provide the services an English learning student needed, which her son needed. That’s why we stand behind our public schools, because they provide for everyone.

What do you think is the biggest problem for the residents of Indiana House District 93 and how would you address it?

I think right now the biggest problem facing our district is, obviously, affordability and good representation. I feel like the South Side of Indianapolis has been neglected by the establishment. They’ve kind of let us flail over here. Although we are part of Indianapolis and Marion County, I feel that outreach has been so low that our community feels like there is no one out here fighting for them. You can tell by our voting turnout numbers in District 93 that there’s a lot of disengaged, disenfranchised voters in this area and I’m ready to change that. I’m ready to get on the front porches and hear what their problems are which are affecting them in their day to day life. I’m not interested in the big picture of what’s going on in Washington, I’m focused on how we can get out in the community and help you.

What role do you think the federal government or national organizations should play in state and local politics?

I believe that the federal government should stay out of our local politics. I am appalled at the amount of money that has been spent by the current administration in our midterm primaries, which is around $14 million, I believe. All that money could have been spent to help the communities around us. I do believe that national organizations are necessary in some regards, but I also feel that they don’t really know what’s going on at the state level, so they’re kind of punching in the dark.

Why should voters support you?

Voters should support me because I am your everyday Hoosier. I’m a working mom. I’ve used the K-12 public schools for my kids and I graduated from public schools here in Indiana. I am a community first and family first candidate. By that I mean all families first, not just my own. All families are important and successful families equal a successful community. I believe that if we can get that support, starting at the school level, we can create successful families in this community and lift this community up together.
