The 2025 University of Indianapolis Homecoming & Family Weekend kicked off on Sept. 19, featuring a variety of on-campus events, including the Student Affairs Block Party and the President’s Pep Rally.
All events throughout the weekend led up to a conference rivalry game between UIndy and the visiting McKendree Bearcats. A rain delay pushed back the kickoff time, but the rain delay was just about the only thing that could stop the UIndy offense. The Hounds tallied 612 total yards in a 47-19 rout of the Bearcats.
“The key to the game was us coming out fast and executing at a high level,” Anderson said. “Gavin [Sukup] started the game 10/10 and when he is hot, we are hard to beat.”
A big part to the offensive success for the hounds is Redshirt Junior Keiveion Anderson. Anderson has started games at Right Guard and Right Tackle earlier in his career, but has found a home as the starting Left Tackle for UIndy. The entire offensive line unit for UIndy has only given up 11 sacks through four games. In comparison, the Hounds have sacked opposing quarterbacks 17 times.
Sukup ended the game with 296 yards and three passing touchdowns while adding 69 yards and a touchdown in the run game.
The stands at Key Stadium were filled and the Nicoson Hall parking lot was buzzing as friends, family, students and alumni showed out to support the Hounds. In addition to the game, the Indiana Central College football team from 1975 was recognized at halftime. The 1975 team went 8-3 and appeared in the NCAA tournament, according to the UIndy Athletics Hall of Fame.
“The crowd was incredible, such a great environment,” Anderson said. “I am glad that we did our job in a dominating fashion.”
An estimated 5,445 people attended Saturday’s game, which is the attendance record for any UIndy football game this season, according to UIndy Athletics.
The Hounds travel to Kirksville, Mo. on Sept. 27 to take on conference rival Truman. Both teams are 1-0 in conference play and look to establish themselves as frontrunners in the conference.
