What UIndy students need to know about returning textbooks during COVID-19

Cameron Blankenship | Staff Writer May 2, 2020

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced University of Indianapolis students to leave campus and as the end of the semester approaches, it has made it harder for students to return their textbooks in a traditional way. Here’s what a couple of textbook rental companies are doing to process returns right now.

UIndy’s campus bookstore

Students who are looking to return their books to UIndy’s Follett bookstore should check their emails about rental due date reminders, according to the bookstore’s website. Another option the bookstore is suggesting is to login to your account on their website and click on “Rentals.” On the rentals page, scroll down to see the books you rented. Click on, “Return all rentals by mail.” This link helps each student go through steps to create a return shipping label. The email contains a link to generate a free return shipping label and packing slip.

The bookstore has added an extra 15 days to help the time for students to get their books to a place that can ship them out. UIndy is also telling students who have questions to reach out to the bookstore by emailing kmillion@follet.com. For more information on the returns process, Follett has created a COVID-19 FAQ.

Amazon

Amazon’s textbook rentals have also made an adaptation due to the COVID-19 crisis. Amazon is extending due dates for all rental return services for an extra 30 days past their original due date. There will be no extra charge from this extra 30 days, according to Amazon. Their return process remains the same. On Amazon’s “Manage Your Rental” page, students can create their shipping label and print it off.

Chegg

If any student needs a book they rented from Chegg past the posted rental term, they need to contact Chegg before the due date for a free extension, according to Chegg. Returning textbooks to Chegg is free because they have prepaid shipping labels. With COVID-19, nothing has changed in terms of their returns for rentals, according to Chegg.
