Heidelberg Haus Café and Bakery
This hole-in-the-wall café was just what I needed after a long day, almost like stepping into my grandma’s kitchen on Christmas. This place was definitely worth the jaunt that it took my sister and me to get there. When we first stepped in, we were not sure what to look at first, the knick knacks that covered the whole store or the display cases of baked goods that look amazing. Before sitting down on 1950s-style bar stools to order our food, we walked into the adjoining rooms of the main café, and found German antiques everywhere. For dinner, I ordered the German Style Bratwurst meal that came with potato salad, while my sister ordered the Currywurst, which came with the same side dish. The sausages were juicy and delicious, and I am still having dreams about their potato salad. But the highlight of the meal was the desserts. My sister ordered the apple strudel, and I got the Chocolate Bavarian Crème cake. The strudel was to die for and the cake was finger-licking good. I almost bought more dessert to take home, but I couldn’t imagine eating again for a long while. I would go back in a heartbeat for their food and the overall German atmosphere.
