Couples wed on campus

Posted on 02.22.2012

Choosing a wedding venue can be a difficult task for some engaged couples. However, with several facilities available on campus, there are couples that have decided to get married at the University of Indianapolis.

Ezell Moore, assistant director of Admissions, and Priscilla Crumble-Moore, key advisor for the School of Nursing, decided to use UIndy Halls A, B and C for their wedding ceremony.

“It was really nice having it [the wedding] here because anytime that we had to make changes or we had a question, they were willing to help,” Moore said. “It was just so nice working with people that we already knew.”

The Moores were married on July of 2009, when the Schwitzer Student Center renovation and addition had been recently completed.

“My wife and I didn’t belong to a church here at the time, so that kind of ruled out a church wedding and we were looking at different venues and pricings,” Moore said.

For others who had been in the area longer, such as recent UIndy graduates J.P. and Carol Sinclair, making UIndy their wedding venue was more sentimental.

“The biggest benefit, at least for us, was [that] we met on campus and fell in love on campus. It just had a lot of special meaning to us, and the price was good,” J.P. said. “We decided it would be in our best benefit to do something that was so close to us.”

The Sinclairs’ wedding took place in September 2011 in McCleary Chapel.

“When we decided on using UIndy, we got free range,” Carol Sinclair said. “We were able to do whatever we wanted. They had different ways of laying out the chapel and UIndy Hall. That was a really nice touch.”

For Moore and his wife, UIndy was not what they were looking for in a reception.  They had their reception at John Byrd’s Cafeteria and Catering.

“[John Byrd’s Cafeteria and Catering] had a bigger space as well as a dance floor,” Moore said. “But, the maintenance staff at UIndy did a great job of working with us having the chairs and tables [for the ceremony] set up the way we wanted. The food services did a great job of working with us and provided a small appetizer menu after the wedding before we went to our reception.”

The Sinclairs decided to have their reception at UIndy, but decided to have different food on campus.

“We didn’t use PFS [Polk Food Services] which is the caterer here at UIndy…We decided [that staying] within our budget, we wanted to bring our own food in,” Carol said.

UIndy was able to provide both couples with services they needed for their special day.

“It [the day] was exactly the way we wanted it in the end. I think that’s what mattered the most.  In the end, it turned out beautifully,” JP Sinclair said. “My wife did a wonderful job planning it, and it was really amazing.”
