Review: Easy A

Posted on 09.29.2010

Easy A puts a new twist on Nathaniel Hawthorne’s classic “The Scarlet Letter.” The movie begins when self-proclaimed invisible high school student Olive (Emma Stone) lies about losing her virginity to a college freshman.

The school’s Christian enthusiast Marianne (Amanda Bynes) overhears, and soon the rumor is spread throughout the school. After trying to clear her name, to no avail, Olive goes along with the rumor and quickly becomes the go-to girl for pretend trysts for gay guys and guys who want to prove that nerds can get girls too.

The majority of the school protests her alleged promiscuity as Olive begins a fight to clear her name, realizing that sometimes having no popularity is better than being infamous. Stone shines in this movie with her comedic beats. The movie also has an incredible star power, including Lisa Kudrow, Stanley Tucci and Penn Badgley. Stone fans will not be disappointed. And if you’re a fan of comedy, you will most likely enjoy this movie.
