Faculty artist series presents French Music for Winds
The Faculty Artist Series presented its second installment, “French Music for Winds,” on Sept. 20 in the Christel DeHaan Fine Arts Center.
The event was the second in a four-part series that concludes in early October. In total, 11 members of the University of Indianapolis music department staff will perform parts of the series.
At the Sept. 20 event, viewers were a plethora of ages, ranging from children to adults. The event pulled in guests from the campus community and the community at large.
Kari Dunn of Indianapolis said she immensely enjoyed the experience.
“It reminded me that life isn’t always about the hustle and bustle. You can actually take the time to breathe sometimes,” Dunn said.
The event started with a selection of three pieces: “Trios Pieces Brèves,” “Caprice on Danish and Russian Airs, Op.79” and “Esquisse.”
After a short intermission, the musicians performed an additional two selections. The first of these additional pieces was, “Sonata for Basson and Piano, Op. 79” This selection included three movements: allegretto moderato, allegro scherzando and molto adagio. The second piece was, “Sextet for Piano, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon and Horn.” The three movements included allegro vivace, diverissement: andantino and finale: prestissimo.
The Faculty Artist Series involves the University of Indianapolis Music Department faculty as well as guest artists.
Seven UIndy professors performed at this event.
Adjunct Professor Anne Reynolds was the flutist for the event. Adjunct Professors Cathyrn Gross and David Bellman both added to the pieces with selection for the clarinet. The Faculty Artist Series is a UIndy tradition.
