My Dinosaur Life – Motion City Soundtrack

Motion City Soundtrack is back with their fourth album of incredibly catchy songs with clever and creative lyrics. They were trying to go with a darker sound on this album.
Although it’s not as upbeat as previous cds, this one is still far from dark. The pop-punk sound is still going strong, but what more could you expect from an album produced by Blink 182’s Mark Hoppus? “I fell asleep watching Veronica Mars again,” is a lyric from one of the most relatable songs, “Her Words Destroyed my Planet.”
Singer Justin Pierre seems to have much more vocal control than he has had in the past. It’s a little bit more controlled and clean sounding, which might have to do with the switch to major label record, Columbia.
The album takes some getting used to, but once you accept it for what it is, you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Motion City Soundtrack’s sound seems to be maturing, but they are staying true to themselves.
