An argument for additional cuisine choices
Many students struggle to pay for their room and board. What could be more satisfying, after a long class and tedious study sessions, than a nice plate of the same old … cafeteria food?
Although it seems like the cafeteria offers a variety of food every week, more often than not the menu just repeats itself. I don’t want to seem ungrateful, but this is very unsatisfying.
Breakfast time is the only time I prefer to eat in the cafeteria because the food is fresh.
Breakfast time is the only time I prefer to eat in the cafeteria because the food is fresh. When I eat at lunch and dinner, the food is cold on my plate before I can even sit down, and afterword my stomach always hurts.
Sometimes I go to ‘The Streets’, but often the food is unappetizing and I also get tired of eating it very quickly.
“My class schedule is hectic, so I can never make it to the cafeteria in time, so I have to eat at ‘The Streets’ which gets old very quick,” freshman resident Niesha Ballard said.
“The Streets” can be more convenient for class schedules and also more of a variety, but its problem is not all of the places stay open late. This causes conflict for students with night classes who definitely miss dinnertime. The Grill is the only place that stays open until 10 p.m., and doesn’t always offer the entire menu.
Typically, the easiest answer would be to leave campus and drive to grab some fast food only not all students have extra cash or a vehicle to do that. It’s too far to walk to these fast food places when the weather is bad.
Many other colleges have made a plan for the students where they have brought a chosen few franchise restaurants to the food court, where residents can swipe their meal card to use as payment for their meals.
This would be great for the university because students could enjoy their favorite restaurants and have the variety that Polk Food Services offers.
Other colleges like Indiana State University have Burger King and McDonald’s on their campus, while Purdue and Butler have Starbucks.
UIndy would benefit more by adding a McDonald’s or a Taco Bell. This would keep commerce on our campus food and benefit the unsatisfied students.
