With every victory, the University of Indianapolis volleyball team adds to their historic 15-1 start.

Defeating Northwest Missouri State in three straight sets added a milestone in the program, as head coach Jody Butera won her 300th volleyball game, announced at the football game against Wayne State.

Coach Butera downplayed the significance of her accomplishment.

“It really doesn’t matter because the 300 wins came from the athletes I’ve been recruiting. It’s not so much me winning 300 games. If I keep on getting really motivated athletes and I can win and if I don’t recruit those type of Type-A personality kids I’m not going to be able to win. That’s what I’ve been fortunate to do.”

Junior All-American Cheneta Morrison provided a different viewpoint.

“It was great. We had silly string and everybody was excited. We just celebrated with her. She thanked us for allowing her to get it and that was a good weekend.”

During their game Sept. 8 versus Indiana Tech, the team matched the 1999 team in commencing the season with 10 consecutive wins.

All of the success the Hounds have had prior to beginning their conference season earned them a record No. 9 ranking with 526 total points and moving up four spots in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association Division II poll, released Sept. 14.

Despite some unprecendented accomplishments thus far, the coach is only looking forward to the next game.

“The girls look at it as we’re 0-0. We all need to work hard regardless of if we’re winning or if we’re losing,” Butera said.
