Sisters Joanna and Mary Luisi do everything together.
Not only are they both music majors at the University of Indianapolis, both are positive role models in the UIndy community.
“I try my best to be a positive role model,” Mary said. “It is a 24- hour, seven days a week job. Just knowing the fact that there are so many people on this campus who respect me as much as I respect them.”
Mary is also a senior majoring in music and minoring in business administration. She also is the assistant resident director in Central Hall, chapter president in Mu Phi Epsilon and vice president in concert choir.
Mary plans to go to the University of West Ontario in London, Ontario, Canada, to get a degree in piano technology.
Joanna is a senior and a music major. She is a resident assistant in Cravens Hall, section leader in concert choir and is a member of Mu Phi Epsilon. She will be at UIndy and a resident assistant in the campus apartments next year. After that, she plans to attend graduate school to get her degree in information technology and library science with a concentration in music librarianship, in hopes of becoming a music librarian.
Together, these sisters have a huge impact on campus, especially in the music department.
“Both of them reached out to me as a freshman in the music department and made me feel like I belonged there,” said freshman music major Kim Holtman. “They’re good at what they do, and they work hard at it.”
Both sisters were home schooled all their lives. Joanna said there were no hard adjustment to be made. She was always active academically and socially and already had taken some college courses at Ivy Tech. Together, the sisters leave good impressions on people.
“They are some of the kindest people you’ll ever meet, and both set splendid examples in their everyday lives,” said Cravens Hall Resident Assistant Amanda Vidal.
These sisters inspire and influence each other. Joanna said that Mary has been her best friend ever since she came into her life.
“She’s my best friend. We complement each other a lot,” Mary said. “I have respect for everything she does, and I’m careful in that I wouldn’t do anything she wouldn’t do. She is my big sister and my role model.”
