When it comes to the nightlife of Indianapolis, IndyMojo has made a strong effort to make the night interesting. Whether through trips to the bar or a night concert, this group has made a great effort to keep the night alive.

“There are a lot of [college students] out there not from Indy that are still looking to do something in the Indy nightlife,” said Jason “JK” King, part-owner of IndyMojo. “We also offer these students the ability to network with a group of people in and outside their college community.”

King and his business partner, Shawn “Smitty” Smith, took over IndyMojo in summer of 2008.

The Web site (indymojo.com) and the company were previous owned by a company in Louisville, Ky., and ran by University of Indianapolis grad Ryan Hupfer.
King said that IndyMojo is more than just a Web site. It is a true interactive social group, not just online, but out in the city.

IndyMojo sponsors and sets up events all around the city. For St. Patrick’s Day  the IndyMojo “mofos” went to the new Indiana Live Casino. Even on a weekly basis, the group sets up movie previews and bar events, and usually the expense to IndyMojo members is little to nothing.

Besides the nightlife, IndyMojo is involved in charity and fundraising. Since King and Smith bought the company, more than $15,000 has been raised for different organizations around the city.
IndyMojo is an official social networking sponsor of the Special Olympics and the Polar Bear Plunge.

This year, IndyMojo members alone raised $2,000 for the Polar Bear Plunge.

A feature of the Web site, in King’s words, is that it is “anti-creeper.” Meaning it’s a safe place for females to go and not feel vulnerable. With a click of a button, the users profile can be protected and they can even view those who are stalking their profile.

A downside to IndyMojo is that the events are more open to the 21 and over crowd. But there are events for the 18 to 20 crowd, such as free movie premieres and intramural sports.
King and Smith are actively looking for events to sponsor and promote. Any student on campus can join the Web site and post events on campus he or she would like to be open to the public. They can even post events exclusively for UIndy students.

“Compared to other networking Web sites, like Facebook and Myspace, you’ll be able to interact with people in your own age group on a more precise basis,” said UIndy senior Kevin Flinn, known as “wrestlerk” on the site. “There are a lot of commuter students that aren’t acquainted with the night life of Indianapolis and [IndyMojo] can really expand their social network.”

According to his profile, Flinn has been a member of IndyMojo for a year now, and he frequently visits the bar scene with the IndyMojo crowd.
