Years of Refusal • Morrissey

Posted on 03.04.2009

Age can be a detriment to lesser rockers,  but ever since 2004’s “You Are The Quarry,”  Morrissey has been enjoying a career resurgence that includes headlining this year’s Coachella festival. His latest shows a man’s histrionics validated by time passed. If  Morrissey weren’t also a master of mirthful cleverness, he’d be insufferable, but on “Years of Refusal”  he simply refuses to be put in an existential corner. Tunes like “You Were Good In Your Time” seem autobiographical, but the Moz is far from ready for retirement, as evident by the album’s glam-rock riffs and ironic punch lines. ‘No true friends in modern life’ Morrissey declares, but there are still plenty of fans.
