Soccer and football teams sign new players

The University of Indianapolis football, men’s and women’s soccer teams announced the names of the new players that signed their National Letters of Intent to join the Greyhounds in the fall of 2009.
The football team signed a total of nine players, all from Indiana and Illinois. Head football coach Joe Polizzi’s two signees that look to be a challenge on the depth charts for starting positions include his own son Ben Polizzi, a running back or wide receiver from Roncalli High School and the transferred quarterback from Youngstown State University, Paul Corsaro.
Also from Indiana are Joumeel McLaurine a running back from Columbus and Shane Wyant an offensive linemen from Lafayette. Other signees from Illinois include Will Brucker, running back; Jon Burandt, offensive line; George Hill, linebacker and Javon Jordan, defensive tackle.
Men’s head soccer coach John Griffin signed three new players to the roster; Bobby Adkins, Ryan MacArthur and Corey Nelson. Adkins is a forward/mid fielder from Utica, Mich. MacArthur is a center mid fielder/forward from Zimmerman, Minn. Nelson is the lone local signee for the soccer team from Pike High School where he played forward, mid fielder and defender.
Head Coach Geoff VanDeusen signed six new additions to the women’s soccer team. Chaunell Abrams, Danielle Bennett, Karlie Clemons, Brea Petty, Shelby Spinelli and Briana Syverson all committed to UIndy.
Abrams comes from Kenwood High School in Baltimore, Maryland. Bennett is a local product from Ben Davis High School and is a 5’9” goalkeeper. Clemons hails from Fort Wayne, and adds another forward position player to the team.
From Louisville, Kentucky is Petty a 5’10” forward and midfielder. Spinelli hails from Roncalli High School, and holds the record at Roncalli for goals and assists in a season. Syverson is another Ben Davis graduate that plays defender and center midfielder.
