Performing for a full house, Secondhand Serenade rocked Ransburg Auditorium on Jan. 31. The concert was hosted by Campus Program Board and the Indianapolis Student Government.

Secondhand Serenade, known for the single “Fall For You”, was accompanied by bands Rookie of the Year, White Tie Affair and Meg and Dia.

This concert was open to the public, with lines wrapping around Ransburg Auditorium and stretching along Hanna Ave., but University of Indianapolis students had the privilege of being seated first. Even with the house packed, people still waited outside the doors.

Opening the night was Rookie of the Year, who had toured with Secondhand Serenade in the past. White Tie Affair kicked off the second portion of the concert, was entertaining with not only their music, but with their performance as well. Their music was punk-rock with a little twist of some techno to enhance their voices.

Meg and Dia, the third band of the night, opened with a strong number before moving to some of their slower pieces featuring keyboard and acoustic guitar. It was a nice change from the floor-thudding bass of the previous bands.

As the red curtain began to rise, Secondhand Serenade’s John Vesely entered the stage with guitar in hand. The crowd went wild as Vesely began to sing “Vulnerable” from his Awake CD.

His performance included a mix of solo acoustics and full-band performances of songs from Secondhand Serenade’s new album, A Twist In My Story. Vesely performed his most famous hit “Fall For You” as an encore at the end of the concert.

The vocal clarity that one hears on Vesely’s CDs, is also found on the stage. His lyrics touch the heart with his lyrics that speak of falling in love and breakups.

Even though the number of people in Ransburg was a bit over bearing at times, the concert itself met all expectations. With a set list consisting of four popular bands, CPB and ISG again provided quality programming for UIndy students.
