Many women have dreamed of becoming Miss America from the time they were little girls. On Jan. 24, while that dream became a reality for senior communication major Katie Stam, Campus Program Board granted the wishes of many other UIndy students during the Miss America for a Night event.

Approximately 40 students attended the event, held in the Schwitzer Student Center, to watch the 2009 Miss America pageant live on TLC cable network and support the success of their fellow classmate.

“Katie [Stam] and I are both communication majors, and I had a chance to get to know her better during a trip to Las Vegas last April for a conference we attended,” said CPB President Joanna Huff. “She is a brilliant, talented, sweet and very funny person. I would say I was surprised when they announced her name, but I expected nothing less.”

Attendees were treated to luxurious snacks during the pageant, and competed in Miss America challenges during commercial breaks. Winners were crowned with their very own tiara, becoming Miss America for a night.

“CPB’s mission is to provide students with quality programming and for something of such importance, it would have been ridiculous not to do [the event],” Huff said. “We are all so very proud of her.”
