The University of Indianapolis men’s and women’s cross country teams completed their sesasons at the NCAA Division II Regional meet at Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Mich. on Nov. 8.

The men’s team finished 18th overall of 19 teams. The ‘Hounds were led by senior Adam Settle with a 77th place finish in 34:18.2. Settle’s teammate, senior Derek Speer finished second for the ‘Hounds in 106th place with a time of 35:07.

“It’s traditionally a hard regional,” Settle said.

Typically each regional sends two teams to nationals, only sending more teams if they meet the national qualifying time. Last year, UIndy’s regional meet send five teams to compete in nationals.

The Lady ‘Hounds went into the regional with a goal to send the young team to nationals. The team placed 14th of 18 teams overall, failing to meet their goal.

“We tried to place in the upper-half at regionals,” said assistant coach Scott Fangman.

Freshman Amy Hamilton led the Lady ‘Hounds by placing 17th overall with a time of 23:17.9. Hamilton was named GLVC Freshman of the Year after her fifth place performance at conference.

Sophomore Lindsay Houvener came in second for the women’s team in the 58th spot. Houvener ran a time of 24:25.6. Teammates, sophomores Bethany Schroeder and Kaitlin Boester, finished 80th and 82nd respecively.
