The Board of Trustees at the University of Indianapolis has chosen to honor its longest serving board member and alumnus William Kiesel by naming the football field in his honor. Kiesel Field was inaugurated with a brief ceremony during halftime of the Homecoming game against Northwood University on Oct. 3.
During the ceremony, President Beverly Pitts unveiled a plaque showcasing the newly christened Kiesel Field. Kiesel himself received a bachelor’s degree from UIndy in 1963 and went on to a successful career at Citigroups Smith Barney. He retired this year as senior vice president. Kiesel has been a member of the board since 1976 and has spent more than 10 years as vice chair.
The name ‘Kiesel Field’ only applies to the football field itself. Key Stadium, which was dedicated in 1970 thanks to a generous gift from Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon Key, will retain its name.
